Julia Morris is one of Australia’s most popular stars and has over 30 years experience performing to crowds all over the world. She has appeared in every major comedy festival, shared the stage with stars including Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams and hosted prestigious events from the Sydney Comedy Festival Gala to the Midwinter Ball at Parliament House.
Julia was aged seventeen for her first TV appearance on Australia’s New Faces in 1985. By the mid nineties Julia was a household name with starring roles in Full Frontal, In Melbourne Tonight and Beauty and the Beast.
Between 2000 and 2007, ‘Lady J-Mo’ lived in the UK where she featured in several sitcoms, won the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, Time Out London’s ‘Comedy Performer of the Year’ and co-hosted Liquid News, a daily entertainment news show on the BBC. Julia also met her husband Dan in the UK.
Julia returned to Australia in 2007 after the birth of her first daughter, Ruby. In 2008 Julia and opera star David Hobson won Channel 7’s celebrity singing show It Takes Two. Julia gave birth to her second daughter, Sophie, later the same year.
Julia won ‘Best Australian Act’ at the Time Out Sydney 2009 Comedy Awards, then during most of 2010 and 2011 Julia lived in Los Angeles, where she attended acting school. In late 2011 Julia returned home to become Australia’s very first Celebrity Apprentice, raising nearly $200,000 for breast cancer research along the way.
In 2012 Julia started her first major acting role as Gemma in Nine Network’s House Husbands. The show established itself as an audience favourite, with Julia being nominated for ‘Most Popular Actress’ in Australia’s Logie Awards for four years in a row. The final season of House Husbands was broadcast in 2017.
Between August and November 2013 Julia hosted Nine Network’s Australia’s Got Talent. The same year, her ‘No Judgement’ stand-up tour won the Helpmann Award for comedy.
At the beginning of 2015 Julia co-hosted the very first Australian season of Network Ten’s hit reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! with Doctor Chris Brown. I’m A Celebrity has since become a highlight of Ten’s annual TV calendar.
In February 2019 Julia went straight from the African jungle to the first season of Chris and Julia’s Sunday Night Takeaway, the Australian version of the feel-good UK hit.
Julia lives in Sydney with her husband Dan, daughters Ruby and Sophie and their dog, Tootsie.
